I have to say, I've been very impressed by the recent activity at Lightbend/Slick2D!
Since the last blog post, I've been fixing bugs and adding features to the JBoss AS7 and Slick2D product lines.
In particular, I've put the finishing touches on the official JBoss AS7 and Slick2D 1.6.0 M5 release. I hope to release the 1.6.0 M5 build in the next couple of days.
I'm working on the next major feature of Slick2D, which will be a fully featured IDE with a number of advanced features. I'm working with the community to come up with a list of features for Slick2D and we'll work on prioritizing those.
I've also spent some time working on a new slick2d-jira plugin for creating issues and patches. This will be useful to the community for creating patches and reporting new bugs. It can be used for translating and bug tracking.
I'm going to try and kick-start some development for a slick2d-js plugin that will take some of the common interaction of a desktop application and present it in a web-browser. This will be a way to quickly develop a plugin for a desktop application without having to go through all the configuration and deployment steps.
I'm excited to see what the community will come up with!
p: you put the finishing touches on 1.6.0 M5? I was looking for that and came up empty handed - but I'm glad you did the work
p: this sounds like the right track - i'm interested in following this and seeing how it goes.
p: i have a huge preference for plugin-based apps - i think the java ecosystem has really made it hard to do this well
and slick2d is a perfect example of why that is so difficult
slick2d should be the last word in cross platform desktop plugins - it works on windows, osx, linux, and android
and even the it come time to do the work to get it on the raspberry pi - its there 827ec27edc
